State museum spaces take part in the Spring of Museums

Organized by the Brazilian Institute of Museums (Ibram), linked to the Ministry of Tourism, the week aims to ensure that these cultural spaces synchronize and speak of the same theme, as explained by Gabriela Campos, head of the Museum of visual arts (MAV) .

“The theme “The power of museums” is very interesting, it makes us think a little about the power of museums. Are they only talking about the past? Are they also there to talk about the present, to talk a bit about the future? It’s a moment when we stop to think about the importance of our memory, our identity, but also about this change of paradigm, that the museum is different, that it is also a place for young people , a place of contemporaneity,” he says. .

Gabriela also believes that with the mobilization of museums around this cause, people who come into contact with the arts will be able to identify, represent and have more art present in their lives.

“The curatorship of our museum, for example, brings in minority groups, blacks, indigenous people, women. We talk a little about social criticism, we also talk about the fantastic, all that as a way of bringing the museum into this space of the now. The museum is no longer a place to keep old things, and it has become a place to discuss the present, politics, because art is also political, so that we can interact with all audiences, researchers , youth, adults, children,” he says.

People’s Palace

Seat of the government of Maranhão, the Palácio dos Leões is one of the spaces that receives the most visitors in the state. Open since 2015 from Tuesday to Sunday for the general public, the museum offers guided tours and a website where it makes its entire collection available, including any pieces not on display.

According to Anna Carolina Vieira, Curator of Cultural Assets at the Palácio dos Leões, National Museum Week is important precisely because it helps to promote and therefore increase the number of visitors.

“These are spaces for culture, education and also leisure. Maranhão has more than 20 free spaces related to the state government, and it is important that the people of Maranhão visit, that National Museums Week allows everyone to know these places. In addition to the guided tours, we have several other programs”, he reinforces.
