Qualcomm announces new Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 and Snapdragon 7 Gen1 chips

Qualcomm held an event on Friday (20) to announce the arrival of Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen1an even better version of the company’s most powerful processor today, now able to deliver 10% more performance while consuming 30% less power. In addition to the high end, the Snapdragon 7 Gen1 comes to equip the next generation of high-end mid-range models.

Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1: More efficiency but modest gains

The new Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 keeps pace with the current phase of the tech age and complements Qualcomm’s lineup of powerful chipsets. To improve power efficiency, the Plus version of Snapdragon 8 Gen1 is manufactured in the course of TSMC 4nm Lithography instead of the Samsung process. This change alone has already resulted in a significant improvement in CPU utilization, now consumes 30% less energyeven keeping the same settings.

So everything remains the same: a total of 8 cores, with 1 Cortex-X2 maximum performance, 3 Cortex-A710 high performance and 4 Cortex-A510 Low consumption. The advantage of the Plus version is really in the frequencies. Qualcomm has boosted the chipset now reaching a Maximum frequency of 3.2 GHzwhich is 200 MHz more than the “normal” Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

In terms of graphics, the GPU has also gained in power and now offers 10% more clocks, delivering even better performance in heavy games and other heavy tasks. In the technical data, the graphics card Adreno 730 can reach 900MHz on the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1, compared to 818 MHz of the predecessor. Even with all that firepower, the company guarantees that it will consume 30% less energy.

Snapdragon 7 Gen1 for premium mid-range

To also offer an option for premium mid-range models, Qualcomm has taken the opportunity to expand its portfolio with the arrival of the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1the first model of the 7 series. This version replaces the old 700 series, which last year had the Snapdragon 778G.

The company has not identified the model of the new Adreno GPU, but the company guarantees that the chipset has performance dedicated to games, with performance of up to 20% higher compared to Adreno 642L present in the Snapdragon 778G. Another highlight is that it still supports Quad HD+ displays at 60Hz or Full HD+ at 144Hz.

the resources Snapdragon elite game and Variable rate shading promise to reduce the quality of specific areas of the scene to increase performance, as well as the Adreno Frame Motion Engine allows you to double the frame rate without increasing consumption when generating new frames using AI.

Additionally, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 brings the X62 modemchip present in Snapdragon 8cx gen 3 for notebook, supporting 5G up to 4.4 Gbps, adjust Fast Connect 6900, WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. For audio, the version includes the following Snapdragon Sound with codec lossless aptX. A great novelty in the photographic field involves the debut of the function ISP Qualcomm Spectra, capable of recording images from three sensors simultaneously or from a single sensor up to 200 MP. In videos, it is possible to record in 4K with fashion HDR.
