After the latest events, opinions remain hugely divided on the reliability of crypto. Some question whether digital assets are still reliable. Others firmly believe that the future is in cryptocurrency. At his latest press briefing, current Miami mayor Francis Suarez rightly spoke on the subject. It highlights some interesting points.
Francis Suarez still receives his salary in bitcoins
Despite market volatility, the mayor of the city of Miami remains loyal to crypto. During the WEF panel in May, he clarified that he still receives his salary in bitcoins (and since last year). Even today he reiterates this point of view.
“Web3 and crypto are here to stay,” he proclaimed at the MiamiWeb3 summit, adding that he had just bought bitcoins. Yet he indicates that his salary as mayor is not his only source of income. Indeed, the current leader of the United States Conference of Mayors is also a lawyer.
Crypto: a promising market, but regulated at all costs!
During the press conference, Francis Suarez also came back to the FTX affair. “We must not forget that this technology is new. Not all iterations will succeed. Not all companies will succeed. In a very optimistic tone, he even goes so far as to say that the collapse of the Sam Bankman-Fried empire could allow us to innovate the crypto market.
However, the mayor of the city of Miami, together with all players in the crypto industry, is calling for clear and strict regulations. But not alone! This staunch crypto advocate especially calls for “a proactive and collaborative approach” to crypto regulation.
“If the emerging leaders come together now and help lawmakers find the right regulatory benchmarks to ensure that this technology helps people, increases the democratization of investment and wealth-building opportunities, and does not hurt people or rob them of their hard-earned savings,” he argues.
Francis Suarez is not the only one in line. Miami is still equally convinced of the importance of crypto and Web3. The proof, the city organizes several events focused on new technologies until the end of the year.
